2013 A Year in Review

Well, the time has come to welcome a new year and as we do so, reflect with us on 2013.  2013 has been a big year for Ashley Nostalgia… We launched 2 new websites, this one, ashleynostalgia.com and our wholesale site, nostalgiasite.com.  We entered a new theme park, added ride photos to the list of our photographic services, and added a new set to one of our long time studios at Silver Dollar City!

At the beginning of 2013, we entered a new theme park, Frontier City, located in Oklahoma City.  Matthew Brady’s Old Time Photography was not new to the park; however, Ashley Nostalgia formerly was not operating the photo studio.  When we entered the park we brought with us new costumes, redecorated sets, TinType media, and years of experience running an old time photo studio. We brought in training managers, carpenters, and our computer tech to get the new studio up and running in time for the 2013 season opening. This was one of four new photo operations that we began running in 2013.

Steel LassoWe also took over the ride photo operations at Frontier City!  This provided a huge learning curve for the team as previously we had only specialized in the old time photography industry.  We had to learn new computer systems, learn how to trigger our cameras so that we could provide the perfect shot every time, redecorate the souvenir photo booths, and we even updated the borders on the photos from years past.  We hope to continue to make improvements to our ride photos in the years to come.

Steel Lasso and Wildcat are the two roller coasters at Frontier City currently with ride photo operations. Both of which are unique in the way that the roller coaster triggers the cameras and flashes and both pose challenges for capturing the perfect photo.  Steel Lasso is a great family friendly steel roller coaster where many children can experience their first ever roller coaster ride, while Wildcat offers a little older crowd the experience of being on a combination steel/wood roller coaster.

If you didn’t stop by in 2013, don’t worry, we’ll be back in April of 2014.  Make sure to stop by and say hey!  (And continue to check back for any promotions we may be offering on our Souvenir Photos)

In 2013 We also added Frontier Fotos to Frontier City.  Frontier Fotos is just a fancy name we came up with for our Front Gate Booth.  Next time you enter the park, make sure you stop for your photo when asked.  We’ll make sure we take a photo that you can take home as a souvenir.  Fun fact: We brought in 7 new top of the line printers, 7 new cameras, 2 new computers, 16 new monitors, and trained on 3 new computer systems in 2013.  We had a lot of fun bringing in all the new studios but it was also a lot of work.

We hope to see you at Frontier City in 2014… We’ll be waiting for you.

969926_517229641658894_1175524229_nAnother new thing for 2013 was the installation of  “The Good Guys Always Win” three dimensional police car set.  This is a historically accurate set for the local area featuring the local Sheriff’s department.  A new set always poses challenges for photos and photography and certainly when you add a real car to the mix, you can imagine some of the challenges.  If you haven’t stopped in at Ashley’s Antique TinType and Photos at Silver Dollar City, you might add that to the things to do in 2014.  Stop by and take a family photo where the Good guys Always Win.

I think this about wraps up with what was new in 2013.  Quite the year for Additions!  We hope you and your family had a great year and wish you good tidings as we quickly approach another year.
